Curly hair education: My journey to becoming a curly hair stylist

Introduction

In 2020 I began my curly hair journey, not knowing that it would open doors to so many opportunities later. I have worked with so many brands like Curly Secret, Bounce Curl, Loreal, Garnier, Flora Curl, etc. And while I’ve taken so much pleasure in working with them, I really want to develop something of my own too. One skill I’ve been wanting to develop for so long is cutting hair – it just makes sense since I’ve been doing my curly hair.

Hair dresser motivation

It completes the puzzle. That’s why I decided to follow hairdressing classes to get a curly hair certification. I also feel like it’s my duty as an Indonesian curly to be able to cut curly hair so I can cut people’s hair. This way I help them get the most out of their hair and looks. I was really lucky to receive a scholarship from my local Dutch municipality, so I don’t have to pay for the education.

My school

My programme is a 40-week programme in Utrecht, right in the middle of the Netherlands. It encompasses both basic and advanced classes. We’re learning not just the technical aspects like cutting techniques and colour theory, but also how to deal with customers in a friendly and professional manner.
