Traveling to Spain for the Rezo Cut Level 1 course
A few summers ago, I visited the Caribbean islands, but this was my first time experiencing the Spanish mainland — and it felt so special to be here for the Rezo Cut Level 1 course. On the day I was flying to Madrid, the tail of autumn storm Amy was bringing torrents of rain and big winds to the Netherlands. Luckily my flight left early and I was unaffected. More than 70 outgoing flights were cancelled that day. The flight was not too far from where I live.
After arriving, it was still quite far though! The course was held on the outskirts of Madrid, it took almost four hours to get there by public transport.
Day 1
On the first day of class I arrived early, because I was very excited to get started. To my surprise, Nubia was also already there. We had a genuine heart-to-heart about my aspirations and recorded a video together. It’s nice that her presence there wasn’t just a cameo, but she actually stayed the whole course as the main trainer.
What I learned: cutting layers in curly hair
Rëzo Cut is the only curly cut in the world designed with the unique technique of sectioning the hair in “V’s” and cutting the hair in circles. This delivers body, balance and shape with seamless elevations. This way, the cuts maintain their shape whether styled curly or blown out. Source: official study guide for Level 1
What I learned: prepare yourself and your client
A great haircut can be life-changing. To reach these sought-after results, make sure you ask the client the right questions and double check their answers. There are also rules to how the client should come to the appointment.
Listen really well to the client’s wishes and take before-and-afer pictures.
What I learned: techniques
Depending on your client’s hair type and goals, one of four techniques is picked with care.
Apart from these we also discussed the Rezo Lites colouring technique.
Impression of the course
Day 2
Today I truly learned how to cut curly hair. We also had lunch together: paella, so a very typical Spanish dish. On day 1 and day 2 together, there were about 15 students that took Level 1. The girls were from all around the world. Surprisingly, I wasn’t the only non-Spanish speaker there. My classmates came from Italy, UK and US. Luckily, Nubia spoke English sometimes to translate her explanations. She was very generous with her knowledge.
In the section on Rezo Lites, we learned how to do highlights on curly hair. I feel like the highlights were a bit easier than the cutting. It’s just one technique to colour all the hair, whereas with cutting you need to keep many different facets in mind.
Overall, I’ve learned so much from this two-day course. I got so much information, and cannot wait to practice them on you!
