My experiences – day in the life
Having signed up for hair stylist classes in part 1, and Rezo classes in part 2, it’s time to share with you some of my experiences so far:
My years-long experience with styling hair, washing hair and treating hair well certainly pays off. Alot of the techniques I’ve been harnessing are also used by my teacher and school mates. Don’t think it’s just smooth sailing to the exam though! As a mom of a playful daughter with a busy life, adding the chore of standing hours on end certainly takes its toll on my feet haha. It can be tricky to use all the techniques advised, and still help the customer in a reasonable time-frame.
What did I learn?
In the past few months I’ve learned how to:
- listen to the client’s wishes
- advise them based on these wishes and the possibilities with their hair and face shape
- proper techniques of cutting symmetrically and safely
It’s been wonderful that I could schedule classes at my own leisure. Sure there are holidays and the weekends are off-limits, but besides that it’s very flexible. This way we could work around my husband’s schedule and optimize the lessons.
Exam news
For those of you still reading, I have a scoop: this week I passed my final exam for the Basic part of the curriculum! This means I can already call myself a Hairstylist basis in the Netherlands 😀
Product recommendations
If you’re also learning to be a hair stylist, check out my new Amazon idea list for my recommendations on hair styling tools:
For example for both your own comfort as well as the customer’s, a professional set of scissors is a must. Also, practice plenty on your training head before moving on to live models (your friends).
I’ll probably write more once I’ve taken the Rezo course, hope to see you soon on the Get to know me section of my blog.
