As an expat living in the Netherlands, my husband kindly (re-)introduced me to swimming from the moment I set foot in Europe. Sure I had swam before in the past, but swimming pools are not a big thing in my country and I live quite far from the beach. In the beginning it was still a bit scary to swim, especially in deeper water or outside. My swimming classes have boosted my confidence to the point that now I do feel comfortable even in a bigger lake.
Anyway, no matter where I go my curls are always with me! So today I’d like to share with you some tips on how you can keep your curls bouncy and healthy when getting your feet wet.
1 Get your hair wet before swimming with curly hair
- With a shower
- So your hair is filled with clean water instead of chlorine and/or salt etc.
2 Use a natural oil on your hair as a form of water repellent and sunscreen.
3A Wear a sunhat when just chilling at the pool.
3B Braid your hair and if possible tuck it under your head gear.
4 Rinse out your hair shortly after swimming.
5 Clean it well after getting home.
6 Apply a leave-in conditioner, such as this one.
Follow the steps and your hair will bounce right back after an intense swim.
