Curly Hair Inspiration: Styling Kids’ Curls and Embracing Self-Love

One way to give back to not only my followers, but curly kids worldwide, is by styling their hair for free.

Small town curls

While on holiday in my Indonesian hometown, I shot two videos showcasing curly hair inspiration in action.
It’s a quaint little mountain village, far away from popular tourist places like Bali and Yogyakarta you might know. The kids (and adults) there are mostly unfamiliar with wavy/curly hair.

These kids were curious about my “messy” wavy-curly hair. They didn’t even know this hair type, so I styled one girl’s curls — and the others loved it so much they wanted theirs done too! 🥰 In part 2, I shared tips on styling curly kids: their hair is usually still healthy, so enhancing curls is easy and doesn’t require lots of products or tools.

My favourite products

On these two occasions, I styled two people with very different hair types. My niece, with almost straight hair, and my friend that has very thick 3B-C curly hair.

Rotterdam family styling

I styled my niece’s hair and thought it would turn out wavier! 🙈 It looked promising when wet, and even dry it didn’t seem fully straight. But the lack of layers, some damage, and it being her first curly styling probably weighed the waves down. Either way, it was still so much fun to do!

At home styling for Vienna

I styled my Indonesian friend’s thick, tight curls for the first time and loved the results!
I learned a lot compared to working with my waves — like using heavier cream and a bit of gel. She was so happy with how it turned out, and so was I! 💕

Ah you’re still reading? Wonderful, in my vast library of IG videos I found another time I helped style the hair of my friend’s daughter. It was a lovely time, she’s quite the personality.
